The Grand Tour with Orient-Express

April 5-29, 1999

An exclusive Orient-Express journey takes place in April 1999. Just 80 people are invited to travel from the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Europe to be the first offical guests on the new Orient-Express in Australia. The unique itinerary includes privileged touring and entertainment in each spectacular destination, along with the best hotel accommodations. Guests will be conveyed by privately chartered Concorde. The ticket price is $64,000. per person.

London 2 nights: Tuesday 6th - Wednesday 7th April 1999

The journey begins in London, staying at the Dorchester. Guests are invited to Kensington Palace for a private tour, with other special sightseeing including a Thames river cruise, culminating in a grand send-off from a private London club.

Venice Simplon-Orient-Express 1 night: Thursday 8th April 1999

Board the celebrated train for the traditional overnight journey to Venice. The route unfolds from London across the Channel to Paris, and on through stunning Alpine scenery, arriving in Venice on Friday evening.

Venice 2 nights: Friday 9th - Saturday 10th April 1999

Staying at the Hotel Cipriani, savour Venice with tours that include a Palazzo banquet and exclusive reception at the Guggenheim Museum. On Sunday, greet Concorde for supersonic travel onwards.

Dubai 2 nights: Sunday 11th- Monday 12th April 1999

Arrive in the UAE for a stay at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Dubai with its spice and gold souks will be explored to the full before a traditional Bedouin desert party.

India 3 nights: Tuesday 13th - Thursday 15th April 1999

The jewels of India are discovered with Agra and the Taj Mahal along with a selection of tours in Rajasthan ending with a dramatic banquet.

Chiang Mai 2 nights: Friday 16th - Saturday 17th April 1999

The cool mountains of northern Thailand provide a backdrop of elephant, hill tribe and craft activities from a relaxing base of the Chaing Mai Regent Hotel.

Eastern & Oriental Express 1 night: Sunday 18th April 1999

Depart by the colonial Orient-Express, the E&O for an overnight journey. The exotic train provides a vantage point from which to view rural Thailand.

Bangkok 2 or 3 nights: Monday 19th - Tuesday 20th/ Wednesday 21st april 1999.

Relax and explore the sights and highlights while at the Oriental Hotel. After visits to the Grand Palace and Temple of the Emerald Buddha, take a cocktail cruise on the Oriental Queen and savour an exclusive Thai dinner.

Yangon 1 night: Wednesday 21st April 1999

An overnight excursion with visits in the colonial capital Yangon and a monk's blessing at the majestic Shwedagon pagoda. Rejoin Concorde for the final flight - into Australia.

Great South Pacific Express inaugural 7 nights: Thursday 22nd - Wednesday 28th April 1999

The inaugural journey begins by boarding the new train, the Great South Pacific, amidst the tropical rainforest of Kuranda, after a night in Cairns. GSPE travels south for guests to spend Saturday out on the Great Barrier Reef. On Sunday the train reaches Brisbane where there is time for a true outback adventure. Rejoining the train, the send off from Queensland marks the grand finale: a legendary Orient-Express party enroute to a fanfare welcome in Sydney and a stay at the Observatory Hotel.
