Drive to medieval Rothenburg, a gem-like town with gingerbread architecture, unchanged for over 200 years. This picture-book city is easily accessible on foot so be sure to explore the cobbled streets and see the glockenspiel performance every hour in the market square. See the town hall, the Rathaus, a mix of Gothic, Classical and Renaissance architecture. Visit the parish church of St. James housing works by Tilman Riemenschneider and the famous Holy Blood Altar. Your hotel for the next two nights is located at the gates of the old city, only minutes from the famous Käthe Wohlfahrt Shop, specializing in anything and everything for Christmas. EISENHUT HOTEL.

Nornberg Christmas market

Travel to Nürnberg, second largest city in Bavaria and home to the most famous of the German Christkindlmarkts (Christmas markets). Explore this main city of Franconia, where the original medieval wall still surrounds a portion of the Old Town. In the main square, feel the magic of this fairyland setting with its festive booths overflowing with ornaments and treasures. The aroma of gingerbread, roasted chestnuts and sizzling sausage fills the air. Return to Rothenburg. EISENHUT HOTEL.

Passau Salzburg, Austria

Continue along the Danube to Regensburg, one of Germany's best kept secrets. In the seventh and eighth centuries, this was the center for the spreading of Christianity to all Europe. Located on the southern tip of the Bavarian Forest, where the Danube, Ilz and Inn rivers merge, lies the delightful city of Passau. The morning is free to relax or begin exploring on your own. On this afternoon's walking tour, see some of Salzburg's most famous landmarks including the Glockenspiel Tower, Residenz Palace and Schloss Mirabell. Stop at the birthplace of Salzburg's most famous composer, Mozart, where his instruments and family pictures are on display. Continue to the tiny village of Oberndorf, where "Silent Night, Holy Night" was composed and first performed.
