It is a journey of 1,200 miles and encompasses all the mystery, excitment and sheer, staggering beauty of the East.
As you dine, you will pass houses raised on stilts, paddy fields that are a vivid emerald color, laughing children chasing after a water buffalo.
From the open deck of the observation car you might glimpse the bright feathers of a tropical bird fluttering between the high branches of the forest or hear the roar of a tiger somewhere out in the thrilling secret heart of the jungle.
While you relax in comfort sipping a perfectly chilled Singapore Sling you can look out on rugged mountains or blue seas sweeping up to a golden, palm-fringed beach. There is surely no finer way to discover the wonders of the East than aboard the Eastern & Oriental Express.
The Eastern & Oriental Express is a world of opulance and fine craftmanship. Your air conditioned compartment with en-suite shower room is a sumptuously upholstered private day-room which is transformed in moments into a cozy and well appointed bedroom.
Intricate marquetry and delicately engraved glass decorate each carriage. In the dining cars, the very best European and Asian cuisines are combined to mouth-watering effect. In the Saloon Car, exquisitw reproductions of many of the items aboard the train are just some of the souvenirs in the on-board boutique. Breathtaking vistas and beautiful scenery provide an exer changing panorama in the Observation Car whilst in the Bar Car, the piano provides gentle backround to delightful conversation at the end of a perfect day. Wherever you venture in this elegent and enchanting train you will encounter the same extraordinary standards of comfort, decor and service.

The day beginswith a polite tap on the door as your steward brings you breakfast in bed. The lakes and mountains of Malaysia's highlands provide a spectacular accompaniment to your fresh fruit juice. You're up in time to enjoy a break at Butterworth station, where you set off for a tour of the lovely island of Penang. Then it's back on board for a leisurely lunch as the train crosses the border into Thailand. Now the towns and villages are different. The houses have steeply peaked roofs, there are Buddhist temples with their elaborately designed spires, and everywhere you look lakes, rivers and canals sparkle under their canopy of water lillies. At small country stations smiling people crowd about the train to offer fresh pineapple or delicious chicken presented upon palm leaves. But there's more than enough for you to enjoy aboard the train, with tea and then another delicious dinner. In the morning, after a restful night, you wake refreshed to find the Eastern & Oriental Express pulling in to Bangkok and the end of your marvellous adventure.
